World Down Syndrome Day 2013

Today, March 21 or 3-21 has been designated by the United Nations as World Down Syndrome Day.  People with Down syndrome are born with 3 copies of their 21st chromosome, hence 3-21.  I decided to make a video of PJ to bring awareness of Down syndrome.  I know there are tons of other videos out there and they all use different songs.  When I was putting the video together I was racking my brain trying to think of a song to put to the pictures.  Then out of the blue the lyrics to a song that is over ten years old and was never published popped into my head.  My little sister wrote a song back when she was in college.  She actually wrote three and recorded all of them.  But this one song fit PJ and all people with Down syndrome so perfectly.  It’s as if God had his hand in it because she wrote the song ten years before PJ was even born.

When we talk about awareness of Down syndrome we are really talking about understanding and acceptance.  These children are such blessings.  Most people are devastated when they get the Ds diagnosis.  It means giving up the life you thought you were going to have to travel down a different path.  That is probably why 90% of women who get the diagnosis during pregnancy choose to terminate.  Those who choose to give life to their baby and those who don’t get the diagnosis until after birth struggle at first.  But then that day comes when you look at your child and realize he’s the gift you never knew you wanted.  We are so blessed to have PJ in our family and I want to share that blessing with as many people as possible.  So here is PJ’s video for World Down Syndrome Day!!  Enjoy!!
