recovery day 2

Well, the redness and rash look a little bit better.  The doctor is keeping him on the antibiotics, he doesn’t know for sure it wasn’t an infection and the antibiotics helped or that it was just contact dermatitis.  This morning I noticed that his abdomen was very distended, he looks a little bit pregnant.  The surgical staff has stopped all feeding until he poops.  They think he is just backed up and it can take 3 to 5 days for his bowel to wake up after this surgery.  We were also told that an infection from this type of surgery usually hits in about 72 hours.  Well, that would put us at tomorrow morning.  So, we are hitting that critical part and I am hoping that God decides to spare my baby from an infection this time around.

Other than that, when he was awake today he was cute and playful.  He is loving his little Elmo balloon and he sat on my lap today and watched Elmo’s World on my laptop for a a little while.

The Tylenol with codeine was stopped this morning, he is now getting just straight Tylenol.  They were already able to turn down his oxygen and his bowels are producing more gas.  I am remaining hopeful!!!!!  Wow, I don’t think I have ever actually hoped to be able to change a poopy diaper before.  Oh, and as much as it sucks to be stuck in a hospital, Milwaukee got bombarded with snow today so at least I get to stay inside and watch from the window.
